Retablos
Retablos are two-dimensional paintings of religious
figures or scenes on wooden panels in New
Mexico's Spanish colonial tradition. Jose creates
retablos from hand-adzed sugar pine, homemade
gesso, natural earth pigments, trementina (sealer of
pinon sap in alcohol) and natural beeswax.
Bultos

Bultos are painted three-dimensional wood carvings
of religious figures in the Spanish colonial tradition of
New Mexico. Jose Lucero creates bultos from
cottonwood root, aspen, jelutong, homemade gesso,
natural earth pigments, trementina (sealer of pinon
sap in alcohol) and natural beeswax.
